Academic Dishonesty
I read the pages in the text book about academic dishonesty. After reading it I found myself thinking about how true it was. We are shaping our whole lives here, not just the next few years. There are such severe consequences when it comes to plagirizing and I think that people are only cheating themselves when they do it. Why not really learn the material that you could use later in life? In high school cheating was not such a big deal, and it is true : everyone does it. But I think that if I student has carried themselves through high school by cheating, they have no other option when they get to college. It was easy in high school and now you can lose scholarships or be dropped all together. I think that cheating in high school causes many problems for those in college that haven't learned a lot.
Community Service
Last weekend I attended "Battle of the Banks". It was a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County. We bowled two games and had to raise $75.00 a person to participate. After doing some research on the organization I started thinking a lot about it and began to support their efforts. I think the BBBS is a great thing and I have thought about being a Big Sister. I have talked to a few people on the Board and I got an application. The only problem I have is that I do not know if I have enough time to give to a child. If I take on this responsibility I want to give my best effort. I plan to wait a few months and let things work themselves out. If I do not become a Big Sister, I will still volunteer the time I do have to the organization. I think that children need that mentor figure in their life and I think that without that, they could get in trouble.
Academic Plan
I am going to major in Elementary Education. When I came to Butler I was given a sheet with all of the required courses. There is not time to take extra classes because there are so many required ones. I think that the General Biology will be the most difficult because I have not taken Biology since freshman year in high school. I am most looking forward to the classes in which I get to do hands on activities that focus on my major. I really enjoy elementary music because it is focusing more on the future. In the next few years I plan to get support from my family and my boyfriend. They are pushing me to succeed throughout college for an easier life in the future.
